I guess I'll get things going
Hey all, in order to get to know each other a bit more, I created this section so we can all say a little bit about ourselves.
As you know, my name is Matt and I created this team. I'm 26 and I'm getting married at the end of August (goodbye freedom!). I currently live in the Fredericton, New Brunswick (Canada) area but I'm originally from the Ottawa area. I've been working for law enforcement for 5 years and I have no kids.
On the sports side, I'm a big fan of the Montreal Canadiens and the Montreal Alouettes in the CFL. I referee minor hockey in the winter and I used to coach a few years ago.
I've owned every NHL game since 1996 but have played the games since the first one came out in 1993 (I used to spend all my money renting the game back in the day).
I created this team simply because I'm really looking forward to NHL 09 and I want to have some fun. I wanted to join a team that is more fun oriented than some other who will take themselves too seriously so I figured that the best way was to have my own team. I'm a pretty laid back guy and I intend to run the team in a very democratic fashion where we all have a chance to express our opinions.
So how about you guys, what's your story?
Cheers,
Matt

Re: I guess I'll get things going
My name is also Matt (Myer). I am 31 and am married with 2 kids. I have a 4 year old daughter and a 7 month old son (which sometimes makes finding time for gaming an adventure). I live in Golden Valley, Minnesota. I work as a program manager at an Adult Day Program in Minneapolis.
I have also played the NHL series since its start on the sega genesis. I have never played organized hockey in real life, but have always been a fan. I am a big fan of the Minnesota Wild (duh!) and love sports in general. I am also looking for some fun out of the new league. I have tended to stear clear of the online games in the past, in order to avoid the "cheesers" and such. I have just recently started playing OTP games on NHL 08 and have found out that it is a blast.
Looking forward to meeting you guys.
Matt

Bio
Hey everybody. My name is Nic (Nicholas) Ridder, I'm 18 and currently live at the border of Omaha, Nebraska and Historic Boys Town, Nebraska (registered as an Omaha resident, for the record). I am single (everyone else seems happily hitched here ) and I am a student, amateur athlete and a grocer.
As far as my athletics career goes, I played American football for my High school from 2005 to 2007. I played for the Millard North Mustangs, Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. I played wide receiver and wore the number 95. We won Nebraska state championship in 2005, State top four in 2006, and state runner up in 2007. I do not play at the moment, as I have since graduated, though I may consider a collegiate career at some level in the near future.
I'm also looking into amateur hockey, although the hockey community here is pretty small.
My favorite sports teams are the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Nebraska Cornhuskers in every sport that they field a team in, and the Kansas City Royals.

Whats up everyone my name is Tom, I am 25, and I am from Las Vegas Nevada. I have been playing Roller hockey most of my life (I know it sucks but its all I got out here in the desert) Not married yet but, I have had the same girl friend for 5 years so i might as well be. I am a estimator for a petroleum company here in Vegas, which means i just sit on my computer all day and do nothing. Iam a huge Anaheim Ducks fan, and if I had to pick a football team it would be the Raiders (sad but true) I just switched over from the NHL 2k series, and happy I did. I look forward to meeting all of you and playing in some great games!

Hey guys, my name is Dean Burge and I'm 28 years old (which I think makes me the oldest guy on the team thus far ...lol) from Bishops Falls, Newfoundland. been married for almost a year now. I also played a few years of orgainized hockey (and just about every other sport), and I still play every year with buddies from here.... I've also been playing hockey games since the blades of steel days. I've owned every EA hockey game since 96 on sega and gensis. I'm a HUGE HABS FAN, and I can't wait for this season to start to see if they can build on the year they had last year.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to NHL09 and getting this online league started.
my gamer tag is DBur.... if anyone wants to add me....later boys.

Re: I guess I'll get things going
The name's Steve Sheppard, and I just got here today. Like, on this site. I've been "here" on Earth for 18, going on 19 years this coming February. Just graduated from High School this past June, and I'm taking a year off from post-secondary endeavors. Planning on attending Dalhousie University for journalism and to play hockey (as a goalie, no less). As far as my gaming availability goes for this team, I'm done High School, so I won't be gone for six hours during a day, then come home and not be able to play because I have homework. I'm not going to University until a year from now, so I won't be swamped with assignments and stressed from all the work. And not to rove, but I inherited a decent amount of money that I don't have to work. So I'm not going to be gone for eight hours a day, and then come home only to go to bed and do it all over again tomorrow, resulting in absolutely no time to get some games under my belt. I'll be available 98% of the time (gotta' spend time with the girlfriend, you know? Except I told her about this, and I told her that I can't spend every waking moment with her. Unless she wants to watch her Stevie play hockey). I ain't married and I ain't got no kids, which at my age I would imagine is a good thing. This descriptions getting pretty extensive; hope y'all don't mind. I did say I wanted to do my journalism when I go to Dal. I'm a writer, what can I say? Thanks again for the opportunity. I'll try my best not to disappoint!

Re: I guess I'll get things going
Hey guys,
My name is Pete Hoeksema. I am 15 going on 16 in january, I live in Richland, Michigan. I think that makes me the youngest player on the team. But don't worry, i'm not the annoying type who scream into the headsets. I play hockey, hopefully i will be called up to the JV team this year! I also golf every once and a while. I love to hang out with friends, and I work at and Ice Cream shop at the lake that i live by.
As far as video games...
We used to have the original Nintendo, but now we have a playstation, gamecube, a wii, an XBox, and an XBox360. I have played NHL games since 03, and have loved every one of them. I once bought a 2k5, and never played it again.
My team is the Detroit Red Wings! Stanley Cup, woot!
And yes, i am an original fan. Ever since I watched hockey, i've rooted for them.
Favorite player: Pavel Datsyuk.
So, I look forward to meeting you guys. It should be a fun season.

Re: I guess I'll get things going
Hello there, everyone. My name is Michael Stanisci and I've just recently become a "free agent" sort of speak and hoping to be "drafted" over to this team. I'm 23 years old, married, and have a beautiful daughter who is one years old now. I am from New Jersey, US and work with LexisNexis Martindale Hubbell as a National Client Development Specialist (LinkedIn available if you're interested).
For the hockey end, my team alliance lies with the New Jersey Devils (surprised?).
For gaming, most of the games I play range from role-playing genres like Xenogears, Final Fantasy, Mass Effect, Fable, KotOR, etc; action/adventure games like Devil May Cry, Galerians, Star Wars: TFU (to be released), etc; to sports titles like NHL and Fight Night. In terms of gaming experience with Hockey titles, I've played and owned many; but I am relatively new to the XBox Live venue. I usually played against friends or the computer leaving the internet gaming to MMOs (which I basically trended away from). I'm excited to taste some sense of "real" experience from both you guys and the insanely good nine year-olds I'm sure are rampaging around.
In terms of personal sports, I am active in Taekwon-Do and have some pickup games of deck hockey with my company and friends. Hockey, US football, and boxing are pretty much the sports I follow regularly.
The patron reason I am joining this team (if accepted!) is for the "mission statement" Mark has. Essentially, I like the idea of a laid back more mature team that is still fired up with a sense of competitive spirit. It's sort of a mesh of everything I wanted, really.
My desired position will be goalie, if available. I look forward to meeting you all on the e-ice after NHL 09 is released.
Regads,
Michael
